Grateful 3 0 | T H I R T Y

A grateful heart requires an awareness .
A grateful heart is open to being grateful about all things .
A grateful heart sits at a continuous feast .
A grateful heart is not of great foolishness .
A grateful heart takes less credit + gives more gratitude .
Gratitude is like math + is in proportion to our ability to see beauty + possibility .
Gratitude colors our world .
Be grateful for A L L things, as they have contributed to our advancement in some way .
That thorns have roses is lovely .
Gratitude for joy + suffering, alike, is in equal degree in a pure heart of love .
It's the hurt that sometimes reminds us of what we have to be grateful for .
Gratitude changes our perspective not our circumstances .
Gratitude is perspective .
Gratitude delivers a message in the mess .
Gratitude and plentitude align .
Gratitude is beyond M E .
Gratitude requires welcoming all blessings while adjusting my heart to express openly admiration for them .
What I truly believe about gratitude lies in my reaction to all things .
Gratitude fosters community .
Gratitude is no one - step process . From heart to mind to vitals + body to all we have + are is a sea of it .
Gratitude is comprised of more than uttering words .
Gratitude is expressed by living by the words as well .
Gratitude is neither silent or unexpressed .
Gratitude should be produced / discharged / used up in order to exist at all .
Gratitude is like electricity .
Gratitude is transforming .
Gratitude C H A N G I N G   F O R E V E R  each of us + the world .

Here is to a  F O R E V E R    C H A N G E D  +  G R A T E F U L   heart .

It doesn't need to end here .

Grateful 3 0 | T W E N T Y N I N E

Yes, gratitude transforms .
It transforms our attitudes .
How we respond .
How we make sense of this thing called life .
The peace we have .
The visions we create .

But a grateful heart is not cultivated from a transformation of circumstances .
Better days . Brighter opportunities .

It simply allows you to see what I S there + see it for more than you may have seen it before .
See it in the better LI G H T that gratitude generates .
See it in the brighter C O L O R S shining .

Writing those W O R D S, those reminders off all that you may have to be grateful for .  Already sent out several notepads, but a few remain . . . so join in the goodness, you .

More transformation on account of gratitude in my life .

I have always been on the look out for change .
Always seeking ways to improve . To revise . To consolidate . To beautify .
Always trying to make sense .
Always desiring peace .
And  A L W A Y S  creating a vision .

Enough A N D more .
Love these words .

Common + routine jobs + ordinary are not always the words we would like to describe

Grateful 3 0 | T W E N T Y S I X

I've always been a fan of similes .
A figure of speech that uses the words L I K E or A S to describe someone or something by comparing it with someone or something else that is similar .

Gratitude is L I K E electricity .

And like electricity, it does not stay in one place .
It is a current that runs + gives light to darkness .
Not only expressing gratitude, but  L I V I N G  out your gratitude
certainly brings light to others in terms of what they are grateful for .

More gratitude --> more beams of light t be spread .

And :
Gratitude is a G I F T to be G I V E N + U N W R A P P E D .

In this season of gifts, may I remember to not only to purchase or create a gift + to wrap a gift beautifully for someone I love, but give it as well + let the unwrapping of it bring joy .

A perfectly wrapped gift may look beautiful under the tree for a time, but in the end, what is inside is so much more beautiful .

Seems simple enough .
If gratitude isn't E X P R E S S E D in some way | shape | form,
is it genuine ?
Or is it just
P L A I N

ingratitude ?

Off to express it now .

Grateful 3 0 | T W E N T Y T W O

Today I will tuck a little postcard I printed last November into my Grateful30 notepad .

Because today, 50 years ago, a man's life was taken .
But I love what this man, J F K, had to say about gratitude before November 22nd, 1963 .

I was thinking about these words last November + am thinking about them again this year .
Words can be so powerful, can they not ?
And yet, words can be limited if they are not backed up by actions .
They only go so far .
To say and not to do . May as well just not say .

I am wondering, today, if I sometimes resemble the boy who cried W O L F .
But - me - the girl who cried G R A T I T U D E .
I say I want awareness .
I say I want community .
I say I want to tune my heart .
To sing Thy praise .
And yet, do my actions always back it up ?

If I say words, I need to live by them .
Words alone are just words . Powerless .
Uttered words and a life lived to reflect them .
Limitless .
Those are my thoughts today . Thanks J F K .

Grateful 3 0 | T W E N T Y O N E

Gratitude is no one - step process .
And as much as I long to tune my heart in, gratitude - I know - is not always a preset station .
It isn't one click and walaa . Grateful heart .

Sri Chinmoy says gratitude "has to flow from the heart" --> be M O V I N G . A C T I V E . F E L T .
He says gratitude T H E N goes to the mind .
I don't think "I want to be grateful" and gratitude just happens .
No, there is a process .
And with the mind, gratitude can be experienced + expressed in T H O U G H T .
And gratitude moves to the vitals + body where it can be
experienced + expressed in W O R D S + A C T I O N S .

Until E V E R Y T H I N G that we H A V E + A R E
is a sea of gratitude .

There is something remarkable in the imagery behind a S E A of gratitude .
I've always been drawn to the sea . Captivated by it, I guess .
It never seems to end .
It's depth is too great to know .
There is so much mystery + wonder in a sea .
Like, I don't completely understand or K N O W it, but I am left in awe .

And that, it seems, is the same conclusion a grateful heart would leave .
In which all that I
H A V E + A M
is endless gratitude .

We've all heard these words before .
Most likely, at a wedding celebration . A community of people gathered around a couple who have decided to join their lives to become one .
Gathering together with hearts that are grateful for two people who have found a love that will last .
Grateful hearts create community .
Grateful hearts bring forth connections between individuals who otherwise may not be connected .
Grateful hearts gather with one another + can relate to one another + can SING THY PRAISE with one another .
Gratitude fosters C O M M U N I T Y .

Grateful 3 0 | N I N E T E E N

Beyond my circumstances .
Is an awareness .
An attitude .
A tuning of my heart .
That triggers .
A response .

Will my response be in alignment to the awareness I believe to have of gratitude ?
Will my response be in alignment to the attitudes I believe to have of gratitude ?
Will my response be in alignment to the thoughts I believe to have of gratitude ?
Will my response be in alignment to the tuning in of gratitude that I believe I desire in my heart ?

Because if that response / action / expression doesn't align, what I S gratitude to me , really ?

Grateful 3 0 | E I G H T E E N

Good words from one of my favorite hymns spurred some reminders in this heart of mine .

I was reflecting on what these words really meant to me . And how they played into the concept of gratitude itself .

C O M E thou F O U N T
Saying welcome to this source of something desirable .

Of E V E R Y blessing .
All of them .

T U N E my heart
Adjust my heart . Touch up my heart . So many important components need to be tuned regularly in order to be used to the best of their ability . A car needs tuning . An engine needs tuning . An instrument needs tuning . A radio needs tuning .
Finding that perfect frequency .
I want a tuned heart .

To  S I N G  thy  P R A I S E .
Singing is a means of expressing outwardly . Not keeping something inside your head or heart or mouth, but proclaiming it out . So others can hear + see + be brought joy by your song as well .
Songs of praise, not complaint or worry or dissatisfaction . Praise is admiration . Approval .
Worship .

No mention of the word G R A T I T U D E or G R A T E F U L .
But is this A N Y T H I N G   B E S I D E S what gratitude really is ?

Today, I want to
W E L C O M E
the  S O U R C E  of
A L L  blessings and
A D J U S T  + find the perfect  F R E Q U E N C Y  of my heart
in order to

Grateful 3 0 | S E V E N T E E N

These words from Brene Brown remind me a bit of the words from Grateful30 | F O U R, specifically the reference to some sweet, yet sometimes ungrateful - often unknowingly ungrateful - children . I remember in my teaching days, often defining moments of P R I V I L E G E . Something special we were able to see or hear or do or taste . Advantages not always earned or ordinary, but truly greater than the usual .

Especially living in the United States, I often feel compelled to think that I deserve this or I deserve that . We are given images day after day in the world around us that paint the belief that we are entitled to a good education + job prospects + a nice car + fashionable wear + beautiful skin + someone to love + a nice home on a street with tall oak trees looming .

And while perhaps this I S reality for some, were they automatically entitled to a life such as that ? Or is it a privilege ? Worthy of gratitude ?

Privileges, N O T entitlements in my life, worthy of gratitude N O W  ?

- Being outside on a mid-November morning with the sun shining .
- Living in a place as beautiful as Colorado is .
- Having family + friends to love + spend time with .
- Having time to explore the creative passions I have .
- Belonging to a church that speaks T R U T H + always reflects the Gospel message of Jesus .
- Having a healthy baby on its way to arrive in S E V E N T E E N days . Or sooner . Or later .

And many, many more . So grateful .

Grateful 3 0 | S I X T E E N

Knowing myself . Do I ?
I feel like there is always so much around me telling me how to K N O W myself .
How to F I N D myself .
How to F I G U R E myself out .

Sometimes, I admit, I feel a bit overwhelmed, wondering if I really K N O W myself well enough or have taken the time to
D I S C O V E R all that I am, like it's this mysterious adventure every individuals has to embark on .

I read something recently that talked about a man's search to find himself + how he discovered that when he S T O P P E D putting so much effort into himself + instead, put effort into helping + acknowledging + appreciating O T H E R S, he felt most alive . He felt like he understood the person he was made to be .

Gratitude goes beyond M E . And it takes looking beyond myself + reflecting beyond myself in order for E V E R Y T H I N G else to be known .

My next Grateful30 notepad is waiting for my post tomorrow . More words + more gratefulness .

A L S O : : A   F O L L O W   U P

Right here, is my M E S S A G E in the M E S S . Which I discovered this morning .

Yesterday, I tried to use the dry erase marker to jot something down to remember + the marker had worn out . So I grabbed another marker, not realizing it was a W E T erase marker, so when my boy took a shower later on , my words dripped away .

This morning, as I was brushing my teeth + thinking I needed to clean up the black streaked mess, I noticed smudges of black here + there on the sink . A little dismayed, wondering why a 27 year old boy would feel the need to play with a mirror of black ink, I rolled my eyes + continued brushing . A moment later, I looked up at the mirror again to clean it off + the words stood out to me : I love you Kayla .

It's hard to see . But it's there + my husband wasn't just playing in ink to make a M E S S . He had left a M E S S A G E for me . And I saw it .

Grateful 3 0 | F I F T E E N

It is the M I D D L E of this month of November .
And what a way to sum up gratitude so far .
It is in correlation to so many things.
Our awareness . Our attitude . Our ability to see the world . Our ability to feel we have enough .

My life's plentitude . Abundance . Overflow . Wealth . Lot . Profusion .
The correlation again between my grateful heart and everything else .

Be grateful, today .

Grateful 3 0 | F O U R T E E N

The mess .
A message in the mess .

Life can seem so messy at times .

My life is often that way .
I cannot even keep my hair untangled and the floor swept .
Much less, maintain untangled thoughts + attitudes + relationships + daily happenings .

But there is a message in the mess .
For those with a grateful heart . Mindset .

And if you're going to have a mess, you may as well find a message in it .

I've always loved the phrase "beautiful mess" because it entails just that .
A mess does not simply need to be ugly . Or purposeless .

A beautiful mess is a mess that has been lived in . Endured . And one in which a message has been discovered .
